International Year of Astronomy launched in Trinidad

Members of the astronomy community, and the general public warmly received the national launch of The International Year of Astronomy 2009, which took place and The National Science Center on Saturday 24th January 2009.
Each of the four organizations involved in promoting IYA: 2009 gave descriptions of their activities during the year and explained their role in promoting astronomy throughout the region. Two highlights of the evening were a dramatic performance of Galelio's first discoveries through a spyglass, and a surprise tribute to Dr. Maura Imbert for her countless endeavors and contributions to the field of astronomy. The evening culminated in viewing sessions where invited guests got a glimpse of the various celestial wonders our skies had to offer.
